Because changing what lies within changes everything.

It’s not your mother’s hypnosis. There’s no waving watch or barking like a dog, unless that’s your thing. I mean, you be you.

Then what is there?

A lot of imagination work, some time travel, possible self-love talk and digging deep into past events in order to rewire how the brain responds to stimulus. Hypno sessions seek to re-teach the nervous system new subconscious patterns of reaction and create a new lens through which you see the world.

We begin with the beautiful pre-supposition that there are no pathologies. The radical notion that all negative behaviors, thought patterns, or automatic responses are actually (mal)adaptations to past events. Let me explain…

All behavior and automatic response is an attempt by the subconscious mind to protect the self. During a stressful event or trauma our subconscious mind chooses the best response to the situation. Whenever we experience an event that is both overwhelming and in which we feel powerless, we experience trauma. This event could be small like being left alone in your crib for 5 minutes too long or large such as natural disasters, war, or interpersonal abuse.

When a trauma happens, no matter the scale, the subconscious chooses the best reaction at the time and creates a “hologram” in the nervous system so that any time the subconscious senses danger it refers to this hologram for it’s automatic protection response. Anytime there is stress, whether or not it’s related to the original incident (could be a looming deadline or bad traffic), the subconscious reverts to this protective mechanism. We get stuck in the hologram of a past event and our nervous systems continues to respond to stress in the same way that worked before, even if it is no longer appropriate. This can lead to a state of constant high stress- Anxiety.

Hypno sessions help to unwind these automatic responses and re-align the subconscious mind/nervous system back to neutral, so that it may respond more appropriately to stressful stimulus. This profoundly changes they way in which we experience the world.

HOW?

In short, we give the brain a new pattern to run. A new hologram. Hypno sessions use the imagination to create new events and feeling experiences from which the subconscious can draw. FMRI studies show that our brains cannot tell the difference between an imagined event and a remembered event. Plasticity of memory is a useful tool to help re-pattern subconscious beliefs, anxiety triggers, mood states, and subconscious automatic stress responses.

During hypnosis we seek to put the brain into alpha state. This is the same state one enters in meditation, watching television, listening to music. This is the state where we are most creative and is a state that by-passes the “critical factor” - our logical, analytical, discerning, Vulcan type mind. It is a state of flow, ease, and clarity. It is easily obtained through guided conscious breath work and purposeful intention.

Hypnosis is a state of consciousness that involves: 

● A relaxed state of inner-focused attention which allows for deeper imagination and focus on the intended goal

● Reduced awareness of outside stimuli which helps maintain this relaxed flow state

● Increased awareness of inner experience, allowing for easy access to thought, emotion, memory, imagination 

During hypnosis, people remain completely aware of everything that is going on. In this state the therapeutic use of hypnosis (hypnotherapy) can provide opportunity for re-patterning unconscious and conscious habits, beliefs, and emotional states.

Most people find that within 2 or 3 sessions their experience of the world shifts in both dramatic and subtle ways. Because we all see the world through the lens of our experience, adding new, positive experiences and adjusting subconscious beliefs/patterns creates a whole new lens through which we perceive. When that lens is clear and bright and able to see without the fog of anxiety, shame, guilt, etc. the world looks very different. And because change is happening on a deep level, people find that some positive shifts in their life are manifesting with little effort outside of the hypno-work.
